Yvonne, a South Florida native, first became interested in psychology while leading school retreats for adolescents. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. Yvonne then went on to complete her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Yvonne has worked with many populations, but found the most fulfillment in working with couples and families. She began her professional career working as an in-home therapist for at risk children. Here she provided children and families with appropriate skills in order to foster a healthy family environment. Yvonne then began an extensive career in working with Domestic Violence, both as a facilitator for the Batterers’ Intervention Program and as a therapist working with children exposed to family violence. Yvonne has provided trainings in Domestic Violence to Broward County Mental Health providers, school personnel, and various other public forums.
Yvonne enjoys supporting families in the many transitions of life. Whether a couple is considering pre-marital counseling, is looking to improve their communication, wanting to build a family or is considering a divorce, Yvonne can support them through each stage. In her signature program, The Collaborative Parenting Program, she expertly guides and therapeutically assists divorced couples in peacefully engaging in quality communication for the benefit of their children. So many times during divorce there is a tremendous amount of stress shouldered by the families, and many times the children experience the brunt of it. In the Collaborating Parenting Program, Yvonne uses her cut to the chase, solution focused approach to successfully assist parents in working collaboratively for the highest good of their children.
Yvonne is a member of the Florida Adoption Council and provides home studies for families who seek to complete or expand their family through adoption. She also provides counseling to birth parents seeking to place their child for adoption in order to provide them with an improved quality of life. She often facilitates the emotional meeting between the adoptive parents and the birth parents and counsels these families in creating a bond.
Yvonne has worked with business leaders and their teams. Her one-on-one coaching and counseling provides individuals with insight into their personal strengths, habits and style so they can enhance their communication and leadership expertise. She is a DISC provider and uses this tool in working with her coaching clients as well counseling clients.
She has worked with several Employee Assistance Programs, providing employees with stress management counseling, crisis intervention, life coaching, and wellness services. She recently coached a team of professionals in a 90 day leadership program, where she supported them in developing a community based project that raised $21,000 for the Covenant House of Broward County.
She has been the keynote speaker for organizations such as Business Networking International, Association of South Florida Mediators and Arbitrators, South Florida Chapter of EAPA and the Broward County School Board. Yvonne has also presented leadership trainings for city employees of West Palm Beach.
Yvonne truly believes in taking a holistic approach with families, therefore joining the team at IHC was a natural fit for her. IHC is a boutique center that fuses both conventional and non-conventional therapies to address the problem at the core level.
