What is Psychotherapy?
Mental health counseling, also know as psychotherapy, is an intervention used by trained psychotherapists to help the patient in solving life’s problems, so that they can regain a sense of happiness and control in their life. This usually includes increasing self-esteem, improving relationships, reducing subjective discomforting experiences, and developing effective coping skills to deal with trauma and negative thoughts and behaviors.
Psychotherapy can be short-term, with just a couple of sessions, or the counseling can involve many sessions over several years. It can take place in individual, couples, family or group sessions. Sometimes psychotherapy is combined with other types of treatment, such as hypnotherapy or medication therapy. We utilize a range of psychotherapeutic techniques to meet the needs of each individual patient.
